Ack: Defense must improve for Gators

Florida’s chances for an SEC title and subsequently a shot at the national title really ride on a huge improvement from the defense. The pass defense was the one that took most of the heat last year and rightfully so. With youth and inexperience in the secondary, teams were able to find big plays against Florida that they could not in 2006. But defense is all connected and it begins up front and works its way back to the last line. Once the Gators endured several injuries in the front seven, it was obvious that the Gators were not going to develop on defense last season. You could live with early season mistakes if the experience was going to make you better as the season goes along. The injuries kept UF from ever improving and by the Michigan game it was like hold on and hope for the offense to pull it out.
