Impressive numbers for Morgan Newton

Perhaps no sport revels in numbers more than football. What’s your 40 time? How tall? How much do you weigh? What’s your bench press? When Urban Meyer hits the recruiting trail, he’s always interested in the numbers. For example, Carmel, Indiana quarterback Morgan Newton runs a 4.5 40 and he’s 6-5 and 215 and he’s back for a senior season in which he hopes to lead Carmel to a second straight Class 5A state championship. His highlight reel is very impressive but so are the numbers 22 and 8.

At peace in Gainesville

He is at peace as he stretches his seven-foot frame out on the winding stairwell that leads to the second floor and the offices of the University of Florida basketball coaches. The basketball practice facility is his refuge even today and Gainesville is the place he feels most at home. On this Wednesday afternoon, staring down at the 2006 national championship trophy, Joakim Noah is back in his element, safe in his surroundings.
