Giles sets sights on Ross’ record
Jarvis Giles has his eyes on Lydell Ross, the former Tampa Gaither star who went on to play tailback at Ohio State. Giles, a 6-0, 180-pounder, ran for 1,378 yards and 19 touchdowns last season but he’s got his sights set on 2,350 yards as a senior. If he can reach his goal, he will surpass Ross in the Gaither record book.

Laying the foundation starts this weekend
One of the pillars in Urban Meyer’s recruiting philosophy is to start building relationships with the kids who will end up Gators long before they make it to campus. It makes sense. If you have a relationship with a kid for six months, a year, or even two years, they are far less likely to bolt at the first sign of adversity than a kid who the coaching staff simply didn‘t get to know.

Jon Halapio will have to wait, but in the meantime, he is keeping his head up. The 6-4, 290-pound Florida commit out of St. Petersburg Catholic learned after a recent meeting with SPC school administrators that he would not be able to graduate in December with 24 credits, four shy of the school's maximum number needed for graduation.
