When Gabe Holmes first started playing football during his freshman year at St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Fort Lauderdale, he hated it and quit before the season ended. But when his sophomore year rolled around, Holmes decided to give it another chance and it is a good thing he did. Holmes flourished as a tight end and now has several scholarship offers.

Cole Figueroa (Tallahassee, Fla.) was selected in the sixth round of the 2008 Major League Baseball Draft on Thursday by the San Diego Padres. The 2007 first-team Freshman All-American and member of the SEC All-Freshman Team was tabbed with the 195th choice.

It's going to be quite a summer for Nick Calathes, Florida's leading scorer in 2008 and the Southeastern Conference's Co-Freshman of the Year. Calathes will be leaving June 22 for Greece, where he will participate in the tryouts for the national team that will be trying to qualify for the Olympics in Beijing.
