College football recruiting is a funny thing. Sometimes great players are found in places that aren’t considered true hotbeds for talent. North and South Carolina haven’t exactly been off the recruiting radar but they aren’t exactly household words when you think of real hot spots. The perception about football in this region is changing however, and the University of Florida could take a cue from one of its archrivals when it comes to establishing a recruiting base in the Carolinas.

Kendall Kelly sure makes life easier on Gadsden City defensive coordinator and recruiting coordinator Ali Smith. There might be a lot of paperwork to deal with, what with all the offers and letters he receives, but at least Smith doesn’t have to search very long for the words to describe the standout wide receiver.

Better late than never. Gary Brown finally got the call that friends, family and fans had been anticipating late last week when he was invited to play in the 2009 ESPN/Under Armour All-American Game in Orlando. The 6-4, 285-pound defensive tackle from Greensboro West Gadsden is a commitment to join the University of Florida’s recruiting class of 2009 and he is considered one of the premier players in the nation at his position.

Titletown USA. ESPN is going around the country giving each of its finalists for Titletown USA to make one last statement. Erin Andrews and an ESPN crew will be on hand Thursday at 1:30 in the North End Zone at The Swamp and it will be Gainesville’s chance to tell the world. If you go by the numbers, then Gainesville has a real shot at it.
