Matt Elam might be forced to miss Friday Night Lights but nothing will diminish his interest in the Florida Gators. Elam is a 2010 prospect and expected to be one of the best safeties in the state and the nation by the time his senior season rolls around. A 6-0, 202-pounder, he’s not shy about stating his interest in the Gators even though he’s got a junior and senior season in high school still ahead of him.

The University of Florida football team will hold the inaugural Gator Charity Challenge on Friday, July 25 at 7 p.m. at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium. The fundraiser will feature the 2008 Gators challenging each other in a series of strength competitions. The event is weather permitting and will be free and open to the public.

Everybody knew Erik Murphy could shoot from the outside. Everybody already knew about the silky smooth jumper whose range he has extended all the way out to the three-point line through a lot of hard work. Everybody also knew that Murph is a real hustler who runs like a gazelle up and down the floor. What we didn’t know is that he’s got a terrific inside game, that he’s almost equally good with either hand from close range and that while he might be a tad on the thin side, he’s wiry strong and isn’t afraid to stick an elbow into the solar plexus of someone trying to get a little too rough.
