Video interview: Omarius Hines

Sometimes you don't get everything you want in an interview and that is the case here with this exclusive interview of Omarius Hines. Hines came to Florida in shape and ready to play and looks like he fits right in on the field for the Gators as a true freshman. He had to leave quickly after starting this interview but Gator fans can get a brief glimpse of Hines brought to you by GatorCountry.com

A few questions with CB Joe Haden

Joe Haden came to Florida expecting to play wide receiver but when asked, he jumped at the chance to play corner. After a freshman season where there were the typical ups and downs, Haden is off to a tremendous start as the Gators begin their preparations for 2008. He has the look of a playmaker now, not the look of a kid trying to feel his way through each game. Gator Country caught up with him for a few minutes after practice Wednesday.

Webster can play but what position?

Finding the right school to play football at the next level is proving a challenge for Kayvon Webster of Monsignor Pace in Opa-Locka. He has 17 scholarship offers so there is no shortage of top schools that want him to sign a scholarship. The easy part of this process is where he will play. Webster is a multi-purpose athlete that can play just about anywhere on the field. Where he plays is not a problem for Webster. He simply wants to be on the field somewhere

Wednesday: The defensive report

Urban Meyer jumped on his team on Wednesday for lack of effort and leadership, but even with the struggles there were some stars, at least one at every position on the defense. Here is a look at what happened with the defense Wednesday.

Head-to-Head: The battle at cornerback

Today’s Head-to-Head takes a look at the battle for starting cornerback jobs. Florida’s corners played soft last year, just what you would expect of inexperienced players who didn’t have the luxury of a defensive line that could get constant pressure. There is a lot more talent on the defensive line this year so the pressure should be there. That puts the pressure squarely on the corners to get to the job done. They will be expected to play much tighter, aggressive coverage. He is a look at the battles that have begun to shape up.

Wednesday afternoon: Offensive report

The Gators saw their first day of contact Wednesday afternoon and the first day in the pads definitely trumped the first two days of shorts and helmets. Although it wasn’t a breakout day by the offense, there were a number of very good plays and the quarterbacks delivered their best day of practice so far.

Bad day at the office

Urban Meyer was grumpy Wednesday afternoon. After nearly three hours in stifling heat and humidity, he was in no mood to talk to the press and who could blame him? He was awaiting word on an injury to senior tight end Cornelius Ingram and his football team had practiced with such a lack of intensity that Meyer made them run gassers for a full ten minutes after practice ended. By the time he got around to talking to the press, it was quite obvious he would rather be any place than on this practice field answering questions.

Q and A with Jason Watkins

The first three days of practice have been a pancake-a-thon for Jason Watkins. After coming out of nowhere to start at offensive tackle last season, the senior is looking to put the exclamation point on his senior season by leading one of the best offensive lines in the nation.

A few questions with DT Javier Estopinan

It only seems that Javier Estopinan is a 20th-year senior at the University of Florida. Actually, he’s been here only five years but after three knee surgeries and a few other complicating injuries, he’s had to deal with his share of pain and rehabilitation. A senior who has just finished rehabbing the third ACL injury, Estopinan wants one more shot at playing healthy an entire season. He’s well aware that his senior leadership and experience can make a difference at defensive tackle, one of the question mark positions for the Gators this year.
