From here on out, it’s game week preparation for the Florida Gators. The Gators concluded their final preseason practice Saturday morning and now they’re off until 7 a.m. Monday morning when they begin their pre-game preparations for next Saturday’s season opener with Hawaii (12:30 p.m., Ben Hill Griffin Stadium).

Senior wide receiver Louis Murphy is finally the veteran wide receiver. He has taken on a more assertive leadership role among the group regarding helping the younger guys grown into the Florida way of doing things. DeLisha Milton-Jones scored three points and the U.S. Women's Olympic Team (8-0) crushed all comers on its way to undefeated Olympic gold, including previously unbeaten Australia (7-1) with a 92-65 blowout in the gold medal game on Saturday night at Wukesong Arena in Beijing, China.

University of Florida football head coach
Urban Meyer announced a pool of 11 players who will serve as the Gators' captains during the 2008 campaign on Saturday. The captains for each game will be named during the week leading up to the contest.

The injuries have been both a curse and a blessing for Steve Addazio this August. They’ve been a curse because he’s had very few days when he’s had anything that resembled a full crew of offensive linemen. This is the time of the year when line coaches want to see precision, five guys working as one. That’s tough do to when you don’t know from practice to practice who will be ready to go. Yet, the uncertainty because of the injuries has been a blessing because it has forced Addazio to exploit the versatility of his guys. He knows when the Florida Gators take the field for game one against Hawaii he has no shortage of capable people at any position.
