Jason Pughe’s Reel Recruiting, Volume 2: 8/28/08

Welcome back to another edition of “Reel Recruiting”, where we provide tidbits and video on the top Gator prospects. Since the last edition not a lot has changed, but I receiveda few nuggets to share with you. The Gators open their season with Hawaii Saturday but the date most top recruits are circling is September 6, when the Miami Hurricanes roll into The Swamp. The visit list for Miami is already shaping up to be an all-star group. We’ll get to that later, but for now here’s a look at what’s going on currently for the 2009 class.

UF Men’s Hoops Game vs. Vols Picked For ESPN GameDay

The University of Florida men's basketball program will be a part of ESPN's GameDay broadcast for the fourth consecutive year, as Thompson-Boling Arena in Knoxville has been selected as the location for ESPN's Jan. 31 telecast prior to the Gators' showdown with Tennessee.

Stamper is ready to answer the call

Ryan Stamper never wanted his opportunity to come this way. The fourth-year Florida junior linebacker, who is always in the right place at the right time, will start Saturday against Hawaii in place of injured preseason All-America linebacker Brandon Spikes, who has a foot injury.

Older, mature Gators relief for Meyer

An August that has been dominated by news of injuries doesn’t seem to have dampened the spirits of Urban Meyer one bit. Even with the news that All-American wide receiver/tailback Percy Harvin and All-SEC middle linebacker Brandon Spikes probably won’t play in Saturday’s season opener with Hawaii (12:30 p.m., Ben Hill Griffin Stadium, Raycom TV), Meyer likes the way the Florida Gators have handled things and he credits a team that is older and more mature than the one he put on the field last year.
