Blake plays waiting game for UF offer

After a summer filled with football camps, Emory Blake could qualify as a critic. Southern Cal was laid back and California cool. The University of Florida’s Friday Night Lights, on the other hand, left him gasping for air.

Ajagbe has Florida on his mind

Gideon Ajagbe came up to Gainesville for Friday Night Lights, looking forward to meeting his favorite Florida football player. Heisman Trophy quarterback Tim Tebow and the electric Percy Harvin have their large and excited followings, but Ajagbe’s favorite Gator is Chris Rainey, whose spring game performance excited the Gator Nation and a national television audience on ESPN.

Holmes holds hope for Florida offer

Gabe Holmes came up to Friday Night Lights with one goal in mind --- a scholarship offer from the Florida Gators. While Holmes thought he performed well at the camp, he left Gainesville without an offer but all that could change in the fall.

Cornileus won’t forget The Swamp

Tyrone Cornileus had been to The Swamp a number of times but never until Friday Night Lights did he understand what it’s like to run out of the tunnel and hear that familiar “Heeeeeeeeere come the Gators!” blasting out over the PA system. In that one moment, Cornileus transformed from spectator to actual player and it’s something he won’t forget anytime soon.

Leadership reason Heaps in demand

Down 28-7 midway through the third quarter of the state championship game, Skyline quarterback Jake Heaps knew he was backed into a corner. As he stared up and down a lifeless sideline, he saw frustration on the face of his teammates. Obviously, they weren’t seeing what he was seeing. Instead of a hopeless situation, he saw a quarter and a half of opportunity.

The lights go on and Burton shines

Trey Burton has been showing off his right arm all summer long. At camps and in 7-on-7 tournaments, the 16-year-old Venice High School quarterback has played well beyond his years and he didn’t disappoint for those in attendance at Friday Night Lights in Ben Hill Griffin Stadium.

Following in some familiar footsteps

Trent Richardson entered Ben Hill Griffin Stadium and stepped on Florida Field for Friday Night Lights and almost certainly took a look at the Ring of Honor the school unveiled in 2006, the 100th season of Florida football.

The mystery of Friday Night Lights

An old friend of mine, Grover Gator, packed up his VW bus and drove from Yeehaw Junction up to Gainesville last week to see what all this fuss was about. He said he was a little confused about the function called “Friday Night Lights” and whether they only had electricity in Gainesville one night a week.

The All-Friday Night Lights team

Friday Night Lights has come and gone and edition four was certainly a showcase for some of the most talented high school football players in the country. Gator Country’s recruiting team was there to evaluate the participants and now that the dust has settled, it’s time to announce the first All-Friday Night Lights team. There were numerous big name prospects who attended camp but for reasons of their own didn’t participate, so the All-FNL team is restricted to players who actually participated.

Godfrey finds Gators much to his liking

Everybody assumes Jeffrey Godfrey is a University of Miami lock since he’s grown up in Miami and plays at Central High School. All things considered, Miami doesn’t lose too many locals but the Hurricanes might have a recruiting battle on their hands after Friday Night Lights. Godfrey has a brand new leader and it isn’t the Hurricanes.

Florida coaches show the love to Wood

Lo Wood came to Friday Night Lights ready to show Florida’s coaches that all the hype about how he can lock down a receiver is for real. He might be only 5-10 and 168 pounds but he’s tough, physical and ever so willing to jam receivers at the line of scrimmage. If they get past the jam, he has the speed and instincts to cover. By the time he had showed off all he could do Friday night, he was getting plenty of love from the Florida coaches.

For Bostic FNL is learning experience

It’s still a learning process for Jon Bostic, a former cornerback and safety who has outgrown those positions and settled in at linebacker. He’s 6-2 and 225 pounds and while he has been a very productive linebacker, he knows there is so much to learn. That’s why he viewed Friday Night Lights as a chance to take a few steps forward in this ongoing transition.

Porter, Boyd: Signs point to Gainesville

The Florida Gators put their best foot forward for Gastonia Ashbrook wide receiver Jheranie Boyd (6-3, 190) and Charlotte Victory Christian defensive tackle Curtis Porter (6-2, 330) Friday. The two stars from North Carolina were given the tour of the campus and the new football complex but what stood out was a Friday Night Lights experience that makes the Gators much more than a blip on the recruiting radar.

Patience no more: Silberman commits

Ian Silberman doesn’t like to wait and when it came to making a college commitment, this 6-5, 275-pound offensive tackle from Fleming Island couldn’t find one good reason for patience. The Florida Gators offered him a scholarship and he said yes. There wasn’t a need for thinking things over because Silberman had the only scholarship offer he ever wanted or needed.

Friday Night Lights: the stars come out

As the nation's most talked about camp approaches the start time on Friday, the University of Florida is preparing to host one of, if not the most impressive rosters for a one-session camp in the country. Friday Night Lights has become synonymous with star power in its first three years since Urban Meyer began it back in 2005. Edition number four of Friday Night Lights will crank up around 7 p.m. in The Swamp with a number of the top recruits for 2009 attending as well as some of the best for next year’s class of 2010.

Another part of the “Plan to Win”

Not that Urban Meyer really cares what the critics have to say about him, but four years ago the same folks that were calling his spread option offense a loony concoction that would work only against a bunch of matadors and never against a decent defense were saying Friday Night Lights had all the earmarks of a desperate act by a desperate man. Wouldn’t work, they said. Others were saying kids would see right through it, that it was the recruiting equivalent of Meyer kicking the stool out from under himself so he could dangle by a rope.
